During the next several years, 143rd Street between Nall and Windsor in Leawood, Kansas, will become a four-lane undivided roadway. Improvements will include curbs and gutters and storm sewers but will also provide a sidewalk on the south side and a bike/hike trail on the north side of the road.
For improved safety, a signal with full pedestrian control will be designed for the intersection of 143rd Street and Mission Road, and new street lighting will be installed along the entire length of the new roadway. For greater aesthetic appeal, the City will be working with utility companies to bury all overhead lines along 143rd Street.
From 143rd Street north and south on Mission Road for approximately 400 feet in each direction, similar improvements will be made to eliminate intersection disruptions and accommodate future improvements to Mission Road.
For anyone interested in seeing how the 143rd Street improvements will appear when complete, Roe Avenue between 135th Street and 123rd Street offers a representative example.
